The Texas Governor's School

The 2003 Texas Legislature established “Texas Governor’s Schools”.  The first Texas Governor’s School will take place June 10 – June 30, 2007 on the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton.

When?

This will be a three-week, residential program for rising Texas 10th graders.  One hundred forty-eight participants will be selected (50% male/ 50% female) in proportion to the number of students in each of the 20 Educational Service Center districts.

Cost

There is no cost for the program, other than travel to and from Denton, and personal expenses.  There may be some travel grants available.

Theme

The tentative theme of the 2007 Texas Governor’s School is “The Future of Science and Technology”.  There will be no credit for the courses taken, but participants should learn a great deal and enjoy the companionship of outstanding peers.  Students will enjoy a variety of activities, including performances by ensembles from the famed UNT College of Music.

The Texas Governor’s School

A new program is being offered this summer. Located on the campus of the University of North Texas, at Denton, the Texas Governor’s School is a three-week residential summer program.

What is it?

Participants will enjoy a non-credit curriculum of courses to excite and motivate bright Texans to pursue careers in mathematics, science, and engineering. Classes will be taught by teams of university professors and high school teachers.

What does it cost?

Nothing. The only expense to participants is travel to and from Denton, and personal expenses. Room, board, and materials are provided.

How do I qualify?

Applicants must be currently in the ninth grade and residents of Texas. The program is for rising 10th graders. Successful applicants will demonstrate high academic motivation and an interest in science, mathematics, or engineering.

How many will be selected?

We plan to select 152 students (76 male, 76 female) for the summer of 2007. Participants will be selected from each of the 20 Educational Service Center regions in proportion to the number of students in that region.
