Welcome Home to IAGT

Our Mission The Irving Association for Gifted and Talented (IAGT) is an organization of parents and other individuals who unite to address the unique needs of gifted and talented students. We encourage and endorse policies that support the social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the gifted child.

From the District Coordinator
(updated 08/11)

I always find myself always a little excited this time of year.  As a teacher, I had as much trouble sleeping the night before the 1st day of school as I did when I was a kid.  What would my classes look like?  Would they like me?  What challenges would face me from day to day and was I equipped to meet them?  Sound a bit like what your kids are thinking about as they look forward to a new school year? I know my two gifted children do, even if they each express them a bit differently.

If you’ve been parenting very long, you have realized that life with a gifted child is much like riding a roller coaster.  The ride is not straight-forward and it contains terrific highs and often unexpected dips. Myths abound and public perception of giftedness is often based on misinformed opinions rather than facts.

As IAGT begins its eleventh year striving to meet the needs of the gifted population in Irving, your board will be working to dispel the myths, educate the public, and advocate for our gifted students, and to support parents and teachers alike as they go about the important task of meeting the needs of this special population. We will be much more visible this year and involved in activities throughout the district.  If you are not a member but care about this population, please see our membership page and join us.  We can’t do it without you!

Happy 2011-2012 school year!
