Text Box:                The 2007 Scholarship General Meeting of parents and friends of IAGT was held 1/22/07 at de la Zavala Middle School. After general business meeting in the Cafetorium collectively, the meeting was split into two language groups (Cafetorium for Spanish and Library for English PowerPoints.)
                Marcie Inman, IAGT District Coordinator, thanked the administration and staff of de Zavala for their hospitality.
                Marcie introduced the IAGT board members noting the two new ones: Myriam Baquero-Jiminez as the new Bilingual Liaison; this being her second general meeting for translation and Penelope Wicks with this being her first meeting as Secretary.
                Marcie also introduced the TAGT Scholarship Workshop presenters: All from IISD Administration: Deborah George, Director of Gifted and Talented, PK-12 and her associate, Audra Rowell, Coordinator of Gifted and Talented Services, PK-5 delivering the English presentation after Deborah George’s collective opening comments translated by IAGT Bilingual Liaison. Marcie also introduced the Coordinators of Bilingual/ESL Services that teamed with the GT administrators and presented in Spanish in the Cafetorium. Elda Rojas, 6-12 and Anita de la Isla overseeing PK-5 in their departments at IISD. As the audience was split into two groups, Group 1 of Spanish speakers remained in cafetorium with 39 adults and 32 children to be led by Anita de la Isla and Elda Rojas, Group 2 consisting of 29 parents and 24 children were then led to the library for the English presentation to be led by Debra George and Audra Rowell.
              Once there the application process was explained, referring to handouts that were given at entry to the meeting. Ideas were given and questions answered concerning student requirements, parent recommendation, and adult/professional recommendation as well as the do’s and don’ts of the application process as well as an explanation of how the TAGT board scores entries.
A deadline-March 1st  All entries must be mailed directly to TAGT in an envelope provided at the meeting. If you want further information go to the TAGT's website for application information. Also go to IISD website and follow the links to the GT Department. A TAGT member must sign your application of which Deborah George is a member and has signed applications obtained from her office. Go to http://www.irvingisd.net/ then click the index tab for the alphabetical listing which gives you the link to the Gifted and Talented Home page for IISD.
THE NEXT GENERAL MEETING FOR SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION IS FEBRUARY 5, 2008 AT LAMAR MIDDLE SCHOOL ON CRANDALL IN SOUTH IRVING. THERE WILL BE ENGLISH AND SPANISH BREAK OUT GROUPS FOR DETAILED HELP FOR FILLING OUT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS.

 IAGT
 Lori Lorenz
 Memorial Scholarship
was announced at the 2007 Scholarship Meeting. Special Guests, RJ Lorenz and his Son, Ryan, donated $1000 to the new scholarship fund in the name of RJ's wife and Ryan's mother, Lori Lorenz.  They also participated in the awards ceremony. We are so grateful for their participation and generous gift.
 
 IAGT, Irving Association for Gifted and Talented
will offer  scholarships to its member families for an enrichment opportunity for their gifted and talented child. Last year's application deadline was March 1st. (see application for mailing information) 3 awards were given on March 26, 2007 at IAGT's last General Meeting, IISD Gifted &Talented Showcase of Talent  at de Zavala Middle School.  Application forms were  mailed out to all paid membership.
          Applicants must be a member. Winners were announced 3/26/07  A deadline of March 1st was  given for all entries for the 2007 Lori Lorenz Memorial Scholarship for its initial awarded scholarship which was handed out by RJ and Ryan Lorenz who generously donated $1000 to the first Lori Lorenz Memorial Scholarships awarded at the March 26, 2007 IISD Gifted & Talented Showcase of Talent at de Zavala Middle School. Entries were mailed to Marcie Inman, IAGT District Coordinator and the winners were picked by the Board committee.
